Guelph/Wellington County Homelessness Project - Canada

Impact Bridges Group (IBG) is actively involved in the Guelph Wellington County Homelessness Project, collaborating with Novometrix Research to develop an innovative financial solution to address homelessness in the region. IBG has been contracted to create a comprehensive plan for a Community Loan Fund, structured as a Limited Partnership (LP), with IBG serving as the General Partner. This initiative represents a forward-thinking approach to tackling social issues through community-driven investment.

The primary objective of the Community Loan Fund is to enable local community members to invest in social enterprises and projects with both social and environmental impact. By focusing on these areas, the fund aims to create a sustainable ecosystem of support for initiatives that address homelessness and related social challenges in Guelph Wellington County. A key feature of this loan fund is its design to work with Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs), which opens up opportunities for non-accredited investors to participate. This inclusive approach allows a broader range of community members to contribute to and benefit from impactful local investments.

In addition to developing the loan fund structure, IBG has been tasked with designing innovative financing instruments to support workforce integration for individuals transitioning out of homelessness. These instruments are intended to provide comprehensive wrap-around support, including job training tailored to the project area's employment opportunities. This holistic approach recognizes that addressing homelessness extends beyond housing and requires sustainable employment and skill development support.

Combining community investment, social enterprise support, and targeted workforce development, the Guelph Wellington County Homelessness Project, with IBG's financial expertise, is creating a multi-faceted approach to addressing homelessness. This model aims to provide immediate relief and works towards building long-term, sustainable solutions that empower individuals and strengthen the community. The project showcases how innovative financial structures can be leveraged to address complex social issues, fostering a collaborative effort between community members, social enterprises, and support organizations.
